During my visit to New York, I stopped by Nonono Restaurant with a group of friends. It was a decent place to eat, and we ordered a good variety of dishes to share. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Great lobster skewers. Great chicken skewers - thigh. Excellent tartar. Highball was OK but not super strong - could have had a better flavor and less ice.

Quick service for a weekday lunch! They have some lunch specials and the skewers are definitely worth a try. The pork skewer was our favorite, even compared to their chicken combo. You can skip the ramen, the shoyu broth was overly fatty and tasted more like a light bone broth rather than the strongly stewed broth you usually get from a Japanese restaurant. The steamed egg is silky smooth and had delicious layers of naruto, shrimp, and mushroom. I would recommend it if you grew up eating them, my nostalgia definitely made it tastier. Plenty of seating inside, including an upstairs area. Servers were just the right amount of attentive and we didn't feel like we were being rushed.

Nonono is a place I frequent every time I visit NYC. Situated on a corner in Manhattan, Nonono is always a perfect meal because the dishes are tapas-style, so you can order as many or as little as you can stomach. Their menu changes ever so slightly depending on the season, though the majority of it remains consistent. My favorite dishes here are the yakitori, hamachi crudo, and wagyu diced beef. The skewers are always so tasty, hot off the grill, and pair well with the tabletop togarashi (which is a blend of spices that cumulatively give the seasoning a slightly spicy, umami, and a touch of smoky taste). The hamachi crudo is the perfect combination of tart, spicy and savory with the jalapeño, orange, onion and pomegranate seed topping (chef's kiss!), and the American wagyu diced beef is so tender, flavorful and always leaves me wanting more! At Nonono, the servers are knowledgeable about the menu, so they are able to provide you with recommendations if needed. They work as a team, so while your main server will take your order, you can ask any server for anything else you may need (whether it be to order another item, or to get your check at the end of your meal). Although I do not always have the same server each time I visit, I have found that all of them have been very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a modern Japanese vibe inside, and you can see the open grill when you walk in. Stairs to the left side of the restaurant upon entering lead you to an upstairs area that can be slightly tight (refrain from bringing large backpacks or luggages if you can), and the two restrooms on this floor are even smaller (after all, it is NYC!). Apart from these minor major city nuisances, you can always expect a delicious meal from this restaurant, so if you're in the city and looking for a place for delicious yakitori or sushi, this makes a great spot for date night or even casual dining! Also, highly recommend reservations ahead of time since they fill up relatively quickly after they open at 5pm!
